Position Overview
The K-5 Physical Education Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a dynamic PE curriculum that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy living among kindergarten through 5th-grade students. This role integrates Christian values into activities, fostering spiritual and physical growth in a nurturing environment. The teacher reports to the elementary principal and collaborates with faculty to support the school’s mission. The position is responsible for the successful execution of field day activities at the end of the year.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform all administrative tasks (grading, communication, etc.) promptly
- Demonstrate collegiality through good communication and teamwork.
- Be prompt to class and maintain the daily schedule, “redeeming the time.”
- Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons for K-5 students, emphasizing motor skills, coordination, and teamwork while incorporating Christian values (e.g., fairness, encouragement).
- Wear MCA-branded and provided apparel and appropriate gym apparel during duties.
- Assess student progress through observation and basic fitness metrics, providing feedback to students and parents.
- Ensure a safe environment by maintaining equipment, enforcing rules, and adapting activities for diverse abilities.
- Organize school-wide events like field days or fitness challenges, promoting community and fun.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support cross-curricular goals (e.g., health education, character development).
- Communicate regularly with parents via reports, conferences, and the school’s online portal.
- Support parents through parent-teacher conferences.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events, contributing to Maranatha’s mission.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, lesson plans, and student assessments in compliance with school policies.
- Support school curriculum management through work on scope and sequence and Curriculum Trak.
- Aid custodial and maintenance personnel by training students to always be good stewards of rooms and equipment.
- Maintain inventory and supplies.
- Fulfill extra duty assignments as assigned by principal.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physical Education or a related field
- ACSI Certification within the first two years of teaching
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, ideally in elementary education.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate physical activities.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Proficiency in integrating technology (e.g., fitness apps, smartboards) into lessons.
- The ideal canidate would be willing to coach a secondary sport.
