Position Overview
Maranatha Christian Academy is seeking a committed Christian educational leader who lives and works from a biblical worldview. The K-2 music teacher works collaboratively with school administrators, staff, faculty, and students to create a dynamic music program that enhances students' creativity, supports their social-emotional development, and enriches the overall educational experience. The candidate would create and deliver engaging music lessons for K-2 students, fostering creativity, musical skills, and a love for music in a positive and supportive classroom environment.
Generally, the teacher is responsible for planning and implementing an appropriate educational program for the children assigned to his/her class, following the guidelines of the school approved curriculum and course of study. The teacher is also responsible to fulfill assigned duties and tasks, attend designated in-service programs and calendared school events, and abide by the terms of contract and policies of the school.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching
- Maintain a well-disciplined, pleasant and stimulating classroom environment conductive to optimum participation in reaching spiritual as well as educational goals and objectives.
- Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans. Lessons should also include the integration of biblical concepts and principles when possible.
- Ensure use of a wide variety of artistic mediums within scope and sequence.
- Develop units of study as needed and maintain proper documentation to augment and contribute to the evolution of an ever-growing and improving curriculum.
- Generate a love and enthusiastic appreciation for art and personal creativity.
- Ensure an ability to evaluate art according to Philippians 4:8.
- Teach elements of art as outlined in Kansas standards.
- Present a biblical approach to art history and artist biographies.
- Post student work and find ways to provide public accolades (eg competitions, Celebration of the Arts displays, etc.).
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend designated school events.
- Attend seminars, workshops and college courses to stay abreast of educational trends and needs.
- Read current literature in the field of education to continue growth in specific knowledge and stimulate creative thinking.
- Participate in faculty devotions, 1st year MCA teacher mentorship, and special functions to promote Christian fellowship and mutual support.
- Serve as needed or assigned in curriculum development.
- Attend and contribute to scheduled faculty meetings by providing information, making helpful suggestions, and participating in consensus problem solving.
- Provide for the safekeeping and accounting of all classroom inventory.
- Plan for and make effective use of assigned classroom volunteers or student aids.
- Update curriculum Trak and Canvas as needed.
- Fulfill extra duty assignments in the supervising of students.
- Maintain appropriate student records including attendance, grades and discipline. Keep cumulative records of assigned students updated and in prescribed order.
- Be prompt to class and maintain the daily schedule.

- Develop a positive rapport with parents and keep them apprised of classroom expectations and activities or problems that may arise with their children.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in art education or related field.
- Possess a state of Kansas teaching certificate and an ACSI teaching certificate or be in process of acquiring either while also demonstrating skill as a classroom teacher.
- Experience teaching art to young children (K-6 preferred).
- Knowledge of basic art theory.
- Ability to engage in multiple art mediums.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with students, parents, and staff.
- Passion for art and teaching young children.
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for fostering a positive learning environment.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Be a born again, consecrated Christian, supporting the purpose and goals of Maranatha Christian Academy.
- Have a rudimentary knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and objectives of the Christian school.
- Attend church services regularly in an evangelical Christian church of choice.
- Agree to and practice the terms of employment.
