Position Overview: 

Maranatha Christian Academy is seeking a committed Christian educational leader who lives and works from a biblical worldview. The K-2 music teacher works collaboratively with school administrators, staff, faculty, and students to create a dynamic music program that enhances students' creativity, supports their social-emotional development, and enriches the overall educational experience. The candidate would create and deliver engaging music lessons for K-2 students, fostering creativity, musical skills, and a love for music in a positive and supportive classroom environment. 

Generally, the teacher is responsible for planning and implementing an appropriate educational program for the children assigned to his/her class, following the guidelines of the school approved curriculum and course of study. The teacher is also responsible to fulfill assigned duties and tasks, attend designated in-service programs and calendared school events, and abide by the terms of contract and policies of the school.  

Job Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Plan and teach age-appropriate and biblically integrated music lessons covering basic music concepts (rhythm, melody, pitch). 
  • Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans. Lessons should also include the integration of biblical concepts and principles when possible. 
  • Introduce simple instruments and vocal activities to build musical skills. 
  • Manage classroom behavior and maintain a fun, engaging atmosphere. 
  • Instill a love for worship.
  • Promote the educational goals as stated within the educational context of the classroom. 
  • Encourage creativity and self-expression through singing, dancing, and playing instruments. 
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ musical development through informal observations. 
  • Provide feedback to students and parents regarding progress using developed rubric. 
  • Plan and rehearse for student performances (e.g., concerts, class presentations). 
  • Coordinate performance logistics, including rehearsal schedules and communication with families. 
  • Work with classroom teachers to integrate music into other subject areas when possible. 
  • Participate in school-wide events and team meetings. 
  • Plan performance events for K-2 classrooms in conjunction with music department. 
  • Stay current on music education trends and attend relevant workshops or training. 
  • Update Curriculum Trak and Scope and Sequence as needed. 
  • Participate in elementary faculty meetings and professional development as requested. 
  • Participate in faculty devotions, 1st year MCA teacher mentorship, and special functions to promote       Christian fellowship and mutual support. 

Qualifications & Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in music education or related field. 
  • Possess a state of Kansas teaching certificate and an ACSI teaching certificate or be in process of acquiring either while also demonstrating skill as a classroom teacher. 
  • Experience teaching music to young children (K-2 preferred). 
  • Knowledge of basic music theory and early childhood music methods. 
  • Ability to play accompanying instruments (e.g., piano, guitar, percussion) preferred 
  • Ability to conduct group singing. 
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with students, parents, and staff. 
  • Passion for music and teaching young children. 
  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for fostering a positive learning environment. 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Be a born again, consecrated Christian, supporting the purpose and goals of Maranatha Christian Academy.
  • Have a rudimentary knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and objectives of the Christian school. 
  • Attend church services regularly in an evangelical Christian church of choice.
  • Agree to and practice the terms of employment.
